Kristian Dolghier

Who am I

Hello! I'm Kristian Dolghier, currently working as a D&E DUV Illumination and Projection Specialist at ASML in Chandler, AZ, where I dive into optimizing and fixing high-precision optical systems. I wrapped up my Master's in Physics and an MBA at Purdue's Kelley School of Business in 2023, and back at Arizona State University, I earned dual degrees in Applied Physics and Economics as an honors student. I'm also a Private Pilot, certified in 2024, which fuels my passion for aviation. My standout projects include building a Michelson Interferometer for weak value amplification to measure tiny mirror angles and using Geant4 to model solar flare impacts on Earth's atmosphere. When I'm not studying or flying, you'll find me hiking or mountain biking around Arizona's trails, always making time for adventure.

Last Project

My prior research is with Dr Ricardo Decca in his research group. We are measuring the Gravitational Constant to a much higher degree than has previously been done. My part is to develop a Michelson Interferometer setup and analyze the various sources of noise that exist (i.e Johnson, op-amp, laser, photodetector, and lock in amplifier noise). I will compare my results to other Michelson Interferometers while also analyzing the potential benefits/costs of an Sagnac Interferometer or an Autocollimator.

Former Projects

  • After several iterations I have completed a project detailing the amount of quantum tunneling within a CPU as the transistor gate size shrink. I found that at a critical dimension width <1 nm, quantum tunneling approaches 0 and may not be observable expect for rare exceptions. Link
  • I was a Barrett Honors student working on my honors Thesis with Dr. Igor Shovkovy and Dr. Brian Steinkamp. This was regarding modeling a solar flare and an ensuing Coronal Mass Ejection with the Earth's Atmosphere and the the magnetic field. This was simulated in Geant4 on my CentOS boot system. Link
  • Engineering intern that started from no practical knowledge to coordinating with upper management from out of the state to fix major issues affecting the whole factory.
Led and finished several major overhauls starting from no knowledge to completion.
  • Wrote scripts for multi-million dollar tools to fix productivity issues.
  • Fixed issues for upper-end management that affected the entire factory.
  • Uncovered issues and removed redundancies that prevented mistakes from occurring on the tools.
  • I was working with Dr. Xihong Peng with VASP. VASP is a program to simulate different compounds and atoms and find new stable structures which may have a practical use. Link
